University Courses

Two routes into university coursework

Universal Learner Courses and ASU Online Courses side by side — who each route is for, and what changes between them.

Two options

University Courses

Accelerated tracks allow high-school students to take university courses and earn credits in their major.

Universal Learner Courses are first-year courses open to anyone, with the credit decision left until the end. ASU Online Courses are the upper-level route for students already working toward a major.

Option 1

Universal Learner Courses

First-year university courses, open to everyone, with no risk until you decide.

  • 20+ first-year university courses
  • Open to everyone
  • Taught by ASU faculty
  • No risk — payment comes at the end of the course, and only if the student wants to accept the grade for credit

Current fees and payment options are confirmed during counseling and published through the approved fee schedule.

Option 2

ASU Online Courses

Upper-level courses for students earning credit toward a chosen major.

  • 200+ pathways and hundreds of courses, including upper-level courses
  • Students earn credit toward a major
  • Accelerates the path to a degree, saving time to degree

Current fees and payment options are confirmed during counseling and published through the approved fee schedule.

Upper-level credit

ASU Online Courses

When students are ready to earn upper-level credit toward their college major, 200+ online courses are available.

  1. Choose a career pathway

Students are on an accelerated path to a degree when they follow a career pathway.

  2. Save time and money

Earning credit toward the major while in high school reduces time to degree.

  3. Prep for success

Students are prepared for the rigor of becoming full-time, degree-seeking college students.

Exact timelines, accepted credits and remaining degree requirements vary by program and are determined through formal academic evaluation.
